Got the Better of Me

To be honest, these orchids have got the better of me.
Here they are in better days, complete with the fake frippery.
I've decided that when I volunteer at the Mt Coot-tha Orchid Species Society Show:
November 3 and 4,
I'll surrender the carcasses.
Malnourished and wretched.
Shells of their former glory.
Back to good hands.
Someone they can trust.
I need a break.
And to be honest, the succulent garden looks like it might be heading the same way, too.
It's failing to make progress.
Thank goodness I've got other Floras to look forward to.
Looking forward too, to the next instalment of Tim Burton's frippery.
Frankenweenie.
Released in Australia, on October 5th.
I love how I read in one of his books that his chalkface teacher wrote in his visual diary, back in his day.
Fair attempt, Tim.
Do these two remind you of anyone you know?
I've collected a few Floras together that remind me of Tim's work...
because I love him.
I love the way he says he was a misfit who grew up in sunny California, always wearing black and
not really liking the sun. Sounds familiar. My formative years were spent on the coast.
And, you know, I never could get it right.
Hooray for misfits!
My good sport friend, S.
This my niece, E.L.

And here's the entrance of Mitchell's Winery in the Clare Valley.
Let your imagination run wild.
Mine did.
In time too, for Halloween!

Might go trick a treating, with this in my hair.
These on my hooves.
And this frock on.
It's good as an artist to always remember to see things in a new, weird way. Tim Burton

Macaron Making

I was supposed to go to a Macaron making workshop this weekend.
But had to cancel when I realised I had a shoot organised for the House of Flora.
And then the lovely modelling Flora's One-of-a-Kinds couldn't make it at the last minute,
due to unforeseen circumstances.
Thank goodness I could phone a friend S, and ask for her assistance.
Here's some new Floras that'll be heading out soon.
Lovely lace and brown organza,

This'd go well with my statement necklace.
Satin Alice band trimmed, pieced and dyed.

This ethereal band's made from the most expensive fabric Flora's ever bought. Remember?
This beaded and hand pieced feather pad's nice.
A brooche as well, if you like.
Love the turquoise and the brown tones.
Don't for one minute think it's all froth and feathers around here.
There's stress, too.
Having huge issues getting these two back out on to the artificial turf.
Their rightful place.
They've settled in after winter, all right.
Can't get them back outside.
Couldn't be anything to do with this?

Creature comfort.
Thank you, S, for loaning me your poupee.

Not for Shy Retiring Types

Here's some Flora-One-of-a-Kinds that will top off your Race day outfit.
Had to resort to drawing a model.

Or the foam, flocked poupee.
Silver lurex and white lace.

This one's like a magic garden of feathers and beads.
Took a minute to look at our own magic garden today at 5.10am. Sunrise.
Goddess light on the way to Boot Camp.
Zhu zhu'd up from plants, begged, borrow or not stolen.
Like these mother-in-law tongues...
Thinned out, up the way, left near someone's mailbox
with a sign, 'Please take.'
How thoughtful.
Here's a ratty broken old candelabra Mr Fascinata had it in for.
But now it functions in the garden. A purpose.
Thank goodness for creative goodness.
There's lots to look forward to, a shoot with a real model on Saturday.
An appointment to see the Flora-One-of-a-Kinds housed in a posh boutique across the way
and the Mt Coot-tha Orchid Species Society Show!
November 3 and 4th.
Get in your diary.
And, get in early.
Might take a few Floras along for the fun.

Eating Rainbows

Popped over to a neighbouring chalkface today for a guest spot with some junior workers.
Did my usual talk about phyto-chemicals in veggies and fruitees. Got the workers to make some fun collages and then eat their assignments before the bell rang.
To be honest, they embraced the task.
What fun and who's to argue against a bit of frippery for all.
