Les Tramezzine

In Venice, a sandwich is not a sandwich unless it is a tramezzine.
Have you tried one?
Don't try to buy one in Rome.
It's Venice's thing, so Mr Fascinata says.
We had a lovely lunch today.
I went back to Venice; in my mind's eye.

And made tramezzines.
In my dream I was making them in a cafĂ© just off Piazza San Marco.
I was wearing a black apron with heavy eye-liner and my hair in a loose bun.
I make the best tramezzines in the world.
There's a fair bit of frippery involved.
A rolling pin, and all fillings must be finely diced and chopped.
Lest the thing won't seal.
The rolling pin flattens the bread after you remove the crusts.
Place the fillings piled in the centre of soft white bread. Seal edges.
You then have a dilemma if you hate throwing food away:
Should I eat the crusts?
Freeze them, and then throw them away in January?
Here's the end result.
The process was too messy for photographs.
Smoked salmon and gherkins.
Egg and Kraft salad cream.
Arugula.
Salami.
Tomato slices.
Send someone out to get a bottle of Prosecco.
My workshop at Bright Learning went nicely.
Thank you for asking.
I had a wonderful group.
Including Mimi from A Tray of Bliss blogspot who came along!
I would be remiss to say that I wasn't chuffed.

Participants were very talented and made some lovely pieces.

Have a nice start to the week.
Keep dreaming.

Find your Tribe

Mr Fascinata in true Oscar Wild fashion doesn't like any club that accepts him.
But, he has made an exception.
To be honest, he likes nothing better than to find himself at The French Bulldog Club of Queensland's
Fun Day for Frenchies.
We joined such a day last weekend.
Here he is (leg-wise) with our Dog of the Year.

The humans don't do that much talking.
It is all about the Frenchies.

 There's a costume parade.
With a nod to the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie being shot in my own backyard.
Or, at least country.
We gave a nod to a pirate suit.
Full ensemble, with a hand-made tri-corn.
Raw felted wool dreadlocks included.
Complete with a sword.
Some people will never get well.
There was also a spotty calf to compete with.

 A triceratops and a life-saver (beach patroller).
 A Mariachi and a dinosaur.

 Obedience tricks.

 Refreshments.
Have you found your tribe lately?
Let me know about it.

I meant to tell you, Marie who writes Art Quill Studio did a story on Flora. Marie's posts are incredibly researched and have the academic depth that could be helpful for anyone that wants to forgo the frippery and learn a few things here and there...

I have used her research for some chalkface work. I love this site. Enjoy a look around.

Flora Fascinata: Birthday Cake!

If you have been giving the attention Flora's frippery deserves you would know
that around this time of year, a certain birthday is celebrated.
Starr's.
S is always up for a good party.
And, doesn't mind a good theme.
This year you will surprised to know that it was pink.
The more Barbie the better.
S and I met early and we went to the flower market.

I cleaned out every vase I had until they were shining.
 S got busy.
 Snipping and arranging.

We had a break for coffee.

H, who is as busy as the next person made this spectacular two-tiered
Flora Fascinata birthday cake.

H will take orders, let me know.
You might remember her Alice in Wonderland Unbirthday Cake from the year before last.
Here's a memory jogger.

Some lovely people brought a gift.

 Happy Birthday, S.
