The Brisbane Look?

Every man about town is currently talking about Uncovering The Brisbane Look.
A thirty minute fashion documentary.
Edited from 24 hours of fashion footage from all sorts of stalwarts in the Queensland Fashion Industry.
It's narrated by Kirstie Clements, a previous editor of Vogue Australia.
Directed by Hailey Bartholomew.
It can be challenging living in sub-tropical conditions.
I have been waiting three years to wear my silk Chanel scarf, because even
the winter's are too oppressive.
I'm scared I'll sweat on it.
Forget winter coats.
This high pressure system happens pretty much all year around.
So with a nod to all things creative in fashioning headpiece frippery
I am eagerly awaiting the viewing, tomorrow night.
I got this lovely invite in my Inbox.

I am going with Starr, who is not afraid to make a statement.

Celebrating individuality and not merely trends gets my vote.
Where else can I wear a $15 Indian caftan to the chalkface
and get the most amount of compliments I have ever had.
And pop a pink flamingo on a patio.
I'll be wearing this balloon skirt style poodle print dress from Easton Pearson
who voice their opinions in the short film.
I'll show you the finished look soon.
That pink thing underneath is my house frock, don't panic.
I bought it years ago, on Sale. As a nod to the house model.
I later saw it referred to
in an interview with the duo expressing how sometimes they need
to keep a check on their creative ideas in relation to the business plan.
It was point in case.
I'd be lying if I didn't love it even more because of this.
Lidia Pearson and Pamela Easton are lifers in fashion.
I think you would like their work.
Frankly, it's not all do-able, but it just stands alone.
Harper's Bazaar's in the creative style loop this month.
It's all happening for the creative types.
We are vindicated.
No more minimalist sheaths for the minute.

See you after I uncover Brisbane.

Visual Diary and a One Day Mini Break

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited. The chalkface's closed tomorrow.
It's the Queensland Show a.k.a the Ekka's day off. I've already peaked.
Spent the day there already with the Calico Capers.
Won't be repeating the experience.

I've got time to think and I'll be talking the day off at home.
Looking forward to spending a day in the room of my own.
Flora's Salon.

Harbouring all sorts of things.
With a door I can quietly shut.

A sequinned curtain.
T's crochet Poodle doorstop does it job when the shop's open.

Shelves made of Champagne boxes.
Make Do and Mend.
The odd hoarded shopping bag.
Floras still being fashioned.
These things take time.

The most expensive fabric in the world.
70% reduced but still nearly $1000/pm!
I bought a strip.
And will miss it when it's gone.
The Dog of the Year. Fixated.
On this lovely purple and green Anthurium.
A complementary pair of hues.

Spring headpieces works in progress.
Dyed beaded lace.

Gorgeous frippery ready for the green light at The Hat Box.
Paris, Paris, Paris.
A reminder that this time next month; I'll be on my way.
Yes, I know.

Stay inspired.

Not all Glamour

If you're of the opinion the House of Flora is always like this:
 You'd be wrong.

This week's been busy.
But, I've still had time to frock-up with Flora frippery.
In one of my Eco-caftans, every skerrick of fabric is used in the making of
this said mu-mu.
Fold in half, sew-up the sides.
Cut a whole out for a neckline.
Make that bit into a corsage.
This week, I've experienced glamour photos of the chalkface's kitchen utensils.
To make the bits and pieces easier to identify for the junior workers.
When there's fifty hands rifling through a drawer.
Not for the faint-hearted, that class.

If you squint you can see our Teacher-Aide in the soup and teaspoon!
I'm doing a shout-out for the excellence.
I honestly don't know what I'd do without her.

I set myself a challenge to wear a Flora corsage each day.
This one's nice, it's blue-hued soft mesh.
On my wrist is my Loveseeds bracelet.
Pink quartz, silver and coral.
Made by one of my oldest friends, from my own chalkface.
Lucky, I know.
Here's two more Loveseeds.
Moonstone and Onyx.
Silver beads and charms sourced from the Karen Tribe on the Burma and Thai Border.
With a complimenting costume Flora on the right.
Loveseeds gives you research in the beads' origins and they are Fairtrade.
A kind of slow-jewellery movement, too.
Mine reminds me to s-l-o-w d-o-w-n.
Breathe.
Let me know if you want one.
You can pick the semi-precious stones.

Mr Fascinata had a Birthday.
This year's cake reflected protion-control with real blue-berries.
Heart-shaped.

 Not quite like last year's.
Get excited it's nearly the weekend!

And don't forget the Embroiderers' Guild Mothers' Day Craft Fair this Sunday.
