Visual Diary Part 2: Tampering with a Masterpiece

I won't lie to you, Readers.
Not every frippery I fashion, seamlessly comes together.
It's not always glitter and artfully arranged crystals and Vogue.
This fez shaped pillbox and its vinyl flower gave me grief.

No matter what I did I couldn't get that thermoplastic magic to happen.
And, frankly, I just thought it looked out of sorts.
Wrong.

I was fine until I saw this old Dolce and Gabbana advertorial.
I had to change tack.
Roses and lace.
What a happy marriage.

I found these beautiful ready-made fleurs.
And knew they were the one.

I then reshaped the base into a heart.
I know, some people will never get well.

Two wired lace leaves stand up like ears.
You can lie them flat if you are so inclined.
I'll stitch that net in place.
But in the meantime, here it is.

In exciting news, it's the Mercedes Benze Fashion Festival is in Brisbane, this August.
Kerrie Hess has done the artwork.

Get tickets.

Lacy Fleur and Skeleton Feather

Here's the result of those lace petals I showed you last post.

Fashioned up with a skeleton feather.
It's a beautifully embroidered net tulle.
Lace-like.
I know it's a little mute, but I have declared before today, that I do
tend to love any colour, as long as it is black.

There's a blocked heart at its base.
All lace petals are carefully hand-sewn around a delicate wire frame.
I spend a lot of time with a needle and thread.

In  between dog-supervisions this week, I have also started this gold lurex mesh rose, in full bloom.

That's the cat's bowl in case you are wondering.
And, cat-crackle.
Safely out of harm's way on a little raised step.
But, not French bulldog proof.
Ongoing mischief.

I'll do a bit more stitching and frou-frouing.

Stay creative and out of trouble.

Winter: Cat in the Hat

I am hunkered down in the lounge room fashioning frippery if anyone has been wondering, 'where on earth I have been?'
Sorry. I know it's been an while.
I am remiss.
Winter's here in tropical Brisbane.
We are all wearing shorts and long sleeves and complaining, 'It's freezing'.
According to Mr Fascinata, I look a bit like Dr Suess' cat-in-the-hat with my striped socks.
Well, I never.

Even the dogs have their derrieres facing against the drafty breeze.
I have started making delicate, lacy petals out of gold embroidered mesh.
Bought from The Fabric Store in New Farm, Brisbane.
Stretched and sized.
Stitched individually on to a wire frame.

With a generous bunch of matte gold stamens for the centre.

 Here's the work in progress.

 I am en vacances.
For two lovely weeks.
I've already had time to obsess about my eyebrows at the beautician's.
I highly recommend it.
It can wind back the years if you are so inclined.
And, get the house-muse to the poodle-parlour.
Eat Mr Fascinata's home-made white corn tortillas and pulled pork.
I took marks off Mr Fascinata's overall result for leaving the sour cream in the plastic container.
A-.
Don't worry.

I will keep you in the loop and show you when it's finished.
The chalkface term ended nicely.
Thank you for asking.
In an unprecedented moment.
I turned up at the chalkface and found this bouquet outside the workers' classroom door.
A colourful thank-you.
Quite frankly, for helping to sizzle countless sausages over the last few months.
For student welfare through the National Schools Chaplaincy program.
A contentious issue at the moment that's for sure.
Stay appreciative.
