Commissioned Flora Decor

It's still grey here.
Raining on and off.
Not much else to say.
But a while back I commissioned one of the ex-workers to make me
this Flora directed textile collage.
I suppose I was a bit like Jeff Koons bossing his way in and around art.
Directing his workers to make Puppy's nonsense or Balloon Dog's poufs.

She used all sorts of beautiful lace.
Here's some lace and beaded tulle wonder artfully arranged on that old pine cupboard
with one broken leg that Mr Fascinata put a coloured dot against:
Remove or show cause.
It's now a House Prop actively engaged.

 Scissored and dyed.
 Pieced together. Arranged.

To make two canvasses.
Here's a close up.
Nice, aren't they?
Pasted, varnished and tinted.

 Inspired?
Got a favourite piece of fabric you can hang?
In other news, I'm going all out on Auslan, people.
There's no key, you have to learn a language yourself.
I'm back in a one hour per week workshop
with fellow workers.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't really enjoy it!
Deliberately sat next to the smartest worker in the class.
Strategic.
Apart from fashioning frippery, it's my year's bent.
This is not a sign I want to be wearing out with use.
Keep on top of everything.
Get cracking, people.

Unprecedented Events Weather-wise and Other

We've had another weather event this week in Brisbane.
A.k.a unprecedented heavy rainfall.
I am grateful that I've only got Mr Fascinata's zucchini to worry about and
not much else. Luckily.
My roof's not leaking.
Not sure if the vine's flowers will survive.
Certainly won't be stuffing those blooms full of ricotta and
soft breadcrumbs anytime soon.
Had guests for dinner last night.
I love it when guests bring a bouquet.
Not that it's mandatory.
Even though I tell them, 'you shouldn't have.'
How polite and appreciative.
These whopping white gladioli had to be lowered in under the door frame.
They are huge.

Fashioning this black flocked tonsorial frip for now.
Not sure where it's going.

How'd your fiscal February go?
All in all, I went okay. Just slightly awry with a couple of
bits and pieces. Job well done.
Now, I've just got to not pick up the slack!
No need for catching up.
Started the Calico Capers wearable art project today with the workers.
Used a bit of Dior from to Fall-Winter 2011
to get them ideating.
Not sure how it'll transfer to calico, but we'll remain hopeful.
I'll keep you posted.
I asked the workers to bring in stuff they had lying around the house
to use in the unit. This has stumped them. The response today indicated non-one
does have anything lying around.
What has happened to making something out of nothing these days?
And a bit of hanging on to junk?
Looks like I'll be climbing into waste paper and card mini-skips again, and I'd be lying
if I said I was joking.
This lovely rose mixed media and black ink collage (as below) is point-taken.
Fashioned from the White Pages telephone directory after disposal.
One of the worker's art pieces.
Now, proudly on display in the House of Flora.
I love it.

 Keep creative.
Here's house model J to remind you, now.

In other riveting news, I gasped out loud today in the car during
the peak hour commute when I realised my
$2 nail polish manicure had survived the day without serious chipping!
Unprecedented.

Harem Panting and wOrKsHoPpinG

I'd be lying to you I said I didn't love a good harem pant.
So, when my friend T turned up with these
before our our sewing bee together on Saturday I was pretty chuffed.
Got to it straight away and styled them with a sensible black jacket and
a couple of Flora-One-of-a-Kinds.
Not sure where their 100% rayon, silky, paisley goodness
will take me, but I'll let you know.
T and I spent the day crafting eco-bags out of painted canvasses.
Trialing a project for the workers.
We loved it, anyway.
Here's T's lovely posture at the Janome.
She's also in the harem pant uniform.
One of the workers painted this giraffe.
I loved it.
 Here's the canvasses laid bare.

This field of poppies gets my People's Choice Award.
I stitched a bit of mane hairiness on that said giraffe.

T's jumbo surrealist eco-shopper was the bag o' the day.

Blew a bit of dust out of the 35 year old Bernina.
Got stuck into mane stitching for Leo.
And got carried away trying to interpret a stitched Flora on this painted portrait.
This is a section of T's red surrealist peacock, as below.
On her large eco-bag.
Could scare a few shoppers out of the checkout queues.
Fun and free therapy! Thanks, T!
Highly recommended. Do have anything you can make into something?

 Pooped now.
